The Sustainable Seas Trust predicts that there will be 700 million tons of plastics in the ocean by 2050.  It is time for a shift.  There are many new types of biodegradable or plant based plastics on the market, but very few of them are actually helpful to the planet.  Soy, grass, and corn can all make plastics. But they affect ecosystems and food supplies. The man made biodegradable plastics still leave toxic chemicals when they degrade or can only degrade in a small number of specialty facilities.

3 reasons why we think Sugarcane is our best option for our tubes:

1. Sugarcane is naturally regenerative

Brazil is the largest producer of sugarcane, and the country is massive.  To give you an idea, about 635 million tons of sugarcane is produced there in a year, and that is only about .02% of the nation’s crop land.  Sugarcane is a fast growing perennial, it can reproduce in less than 1 year and doesn’t have to be replanted. While sugarcane is a water hungry plant, it is irrigated naturally by the abundance of rainfall in Brazil.

2. The carbon footprint is 50% less than a typical plastic tube

Sugarcane absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.  According to M&H, a producer of bio plastic bottles, says that every kilogram of the green sugarcane plastic produced results in 3.09kg of CO2 being removed from the air. It’s a win to us!

3. It is 100% recyclable

Make sure you toss your tube in the recycling bin! Our recommendation is to cut the top of the tube off when you can no longer get product out and use a popsicle stick or q-tip to scrape out the rest of the product to use on your face and hands before you toss.

Daily Colostrum Moisturizer will be available in January in our new sugarcane tubes! Stay tuned for more updates!
